  • Historical and moving film of aviation research

    I saw this movie twice at the time of release. My appreciation for it has something to do with the period (around Sputnik) when approaching space still had a great deal of mystery to it. Nothing conveyed that better to me than the scenes of the high altitude manned balloon experiments with one of the "near astronauts" looking down from an open gondola at the Earth so far below. Other test scenes, from real tests, are quite thrilling.
