Disturbing Reality ! Five Stars
- Don Riley
Constance Towers is perfectly cast. Very intelligent performance of a flawed individual. There's more "reality" in this film than in most American Films of the era. Great movie, I'd place in with the likes of "The Honeymoon Killers".
Started watching mid stream. The song in the children's ward "Daddy Dear" (?) was cut on a 45 RPM by Eddie Albert,
Towering Towers in The Naked Kiss

I gave it 5 stars because the story had me from the get-go... the story of a strong woman. AND because the cinematography by Stanley Cortez was so beautiful and unconventional. I love looking at midcentury black and white photos and this was like a string of great ones. The outside shots of middle America so bleak and flat. The scene where Grant lures Kelly to his lair so glittering, almost narcotic. It's a strong-women picture, and they all stick together and love one another at the very end, but they don't have the power (yet) to override the opinions and censorship of their small town. People support her for what she did, but they simply can't welcome her over the threshold anymore because of the way she used to make a living. The character of Kelly had such obstacles, one fire after another to walk through, and yet she did it with such grace. I liked this movie alot.
The Naked Kiss
This film can be seen as an pre-David Lynch-style film as done by Fuller in terms of examining small towns. Towers carries the film in a towering performance as a former prostitute caught in a love triangle with sheriff and wealthiest citizen in a small town. The films pacing is too slow, but when stuff does happen, it strongly contrasts with the overall dullness. A good, but weaker follow-up from Fuller and Towers. I give it a 3.5/5.

THIS MOVIE CAUGHT ME EVEN THOUGH I WAS JUST FLIPPING CHANNELS. THE PLOT TWISTS KEPT LOSING ME ESPECIALLY A REALLY CRUCIAL SCENE ("IT'S BAD LUCK TO SHOW THE GROOM THAT DRESS BEFORE THE WEDDING."). IN THE END IT ALL MADE SENSE. THE HOOKER HEROINE HAS YOU ROOTING FOR HER FROM THE BEGINNING ("I DON'T MAKE CHANGE"). SHE REALLY GOT MY POINTS WHENSHE SHOVES 25$ DOLLARS DOWN A MADAMS MOUTH AFTER BEATING HER BUTT! THIS MOVIE HAD SUCH A SURPRISING END QUARTER THAT I REALLY SUGGEST YOU NOT READ THE TMC REVIEW BEFORE VIEWING. TMC PLEASE STOP TELLING THE ENDINGS OR PROVIDE A LINK SO PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT THE ENDING TOLD TO THEM.
I only know of her though her work on General Hospital as Helena Cassadine. It's nice to see her young and in movies.
TOWERS IS A SIGHT FOR SORE EYES!
A story wih potential but hampered with a low budget and a sometimes campy script. Ms. Towers is a TB with a H of G (tough broad with a heart of gold).
Essential, with Constance Towers as Kelly.
I thought Candy was a lesbian and Kelly is frigid. Griff is a porn lover. That is what I saw!
Was there a Proposal?
I don't remember Griff proposing marriage at the end of the movie. Did I miss it? Great film!
