Diana Forsythe, on Crete in 1941 to persuade her archeologist father to return to England before the Nazis take over the island, is taken by her Greek friend, Athena, to the hideout of a group of women guerrillas led by Katina after her father is killed during an attack by the Germans. Diana offers to help the guerrillas, and they assign her to drive a supply truck. She meets Christo, a Greek lieutenant who works under Major Hamilton, coordinator of the resistance forces on Crete. Christo agrees to help Diana escape to England. After an unsuccessful escape attempt, Diana continues to assist the Greek guerrillas in harassing the Nazis who occupy the island. Meanwhile, Katina, in love with Christo, grows increasingly resentful as she observes his attraction to Diana. Christo discovers that a Nazi munitions ship is docked at the harbor, and Diana joins the guerrillas on a dangerous sabotage mission. Swimming underwater, they attach explosives to the ship and narrowly escape the blast. The mission complete, Christo arranges for Diana's safe passage to England.
