A man's friend searches for the real crooks when he's accused of robbery and murder.
When the cash reserves of the Sundown Bank are stolen, suspicion falls upon banker John Cameron, the only person who knows the combination to the vault. In the absence of the sheriff, Crawford, the bank depositors take the law into their own hands until rancher Clint Bradford and his pals Whopper and Andy, step in and send Cameron to hide in Red Rock Canyon. Soon afterward, the sheriff returns to restore peace, assigning Clint and one of his deputies to retrieve Cameron. They are too late, however, because Ross Daggett, the crooked real estate agent who framed Cameron for the robbery, has sent his men, Tex and Dusty, to silence the banker. After forcing Cameron to write a confession, they shoot the deputy and make the shooting look like the work of the banker. Desperate, Cameron escapes and returns home to his daughter June and his ranch, where he enlists Clint's aid in clearing his name. As Cameron hides out in a ghost town, Simmons, the bank examiner, arrives to determine the fate of the bank. Simmons appoints Daggett as bank receiver, but cautions that he must grant Cameron a sixty day grace period before taking over the bank. Daggett's scheme to foreclose on the overdue loans of the ranchers depends upon him taking the bank over immediately, and so he sets out to find Cameron. When an examination of the bank records reveals discrepencies in the accounts of Tex and Dusty, Clint begins to suspect that they are working under orders to sabotage the bank. Meanwhile, Daggett tricks June into leading a posse to her father's hideout, and he is arrested and brought to trial. Realizing that the only way to exonerate Cameron is to prove that someone else has the combination to the safe, Clint and Whooper search Tex and Dusty's room and discover a peephole that overlooks the vault. After making sure that Tex is appointed to the jury, Clint "accidentally" locks him in the vault, tricking Dusty into revealing that Daggett knows the combination. With Daggett exposed as the brains behind the robbery, Cameron is exonerated of all guilt.
