Perverse CLASSIC THRILLER !
- Travis Black
- 11/25/12
I just bought this film as a part of a 5 dvd set from TCM on the Universal Cult Horror Collection set That included: "The Strange case of Dr.RX", "House of Horrors", "The Mad Ghoul", and "The Mad Doctor of Market Street". (LOVE THEM ALL !) "Murders in the Zoo" (1933) is just that, it's a about a crazed and perversly sadistic zoo keeper who uses zoo animals to "take care of" his eneimes. Along with the other Pre-Code Horror Class "Island of Lost Souls", "Murders in the Zoo" is another FANTASTIC Pre-code classis with an amazing performance by Lionel Atwill (who for some reson dosent get top billing as other great horror icons: Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi). Anyway "Murders in the Zoo" is definitly not for the "Faint of Heart", remember this is a PRE-CODE HORROR FILM that dosen't hold back it's punches. For Example in the opening scence we see Atwill sewing a victims mouth SHUT ! , later we see him forecably caressing his love intrest's breasts' , telling her that after he murderded one of his eneimes that he feels strangley aroused, and near the end of the movie he throws her over an alligator pit and the alligators converge on her corpse tearing it to pieces ! So all-in all a GREAT Pre-code Horror Classic NOT FOR EVERYONE ! (Only for HORROR fans !)

Not For Herpetophobes!
- Bruce Reber
- 11/3/09
"Murders In The Zoo" is definitely not a film for those who have Herpetophobia (a deadly fear of snakes). You just gotta love a film that has a green mamba named Oswald that gets out of his cage and wreaks havoc on an entire zoo, and also a Boa Constrictor that squeezes the killer to death at the end. HSSSSSSSS!
