A Perfect Movie for TCM Film Buffs!!
- Hugh_Manatee
- 1/4/10
If you love 30's and 40's Warner Brothers programmers, you will love Stanley Donen's hilarious, affectionate send up of going to a double feature back during the depression; two mini-features and coming attraction featuring stock company players, stock sets and stock footage. George S. Scott, Art Carney, Eli Wallach, Red Buttons and others play multiple roles along with Barry Bostwick, Harry Hamlin, Trish Van Devere, Ann Reinking, and a cameo by George Burns. Written by ex-Sid Caesar and MASH veteran Larry Gelbart, the screenplay resembles the great "Your Show of Shows" parodies including a black & white John Garfield boxing film, a color Busby Berkeley musical and Dawn Patrol. The more you know about old movie cliches, the more you will love this!!

Perfect for TCM!

This is a movie in a movie, a "double feature" that mimicks the old movie format. It is hard to believe that it is not on DVD or even VHS. It isn't that old. Is this a situation like "The High and the Mighty" used to have where someone's estate has control of the film and won't release it? Please show it, it is a nice film!
