What a clunker!
I hardly know where to start with this film. I guess with the preposterous plot - it is simply impossible to suspend one's disbelief when confronted with one ridiculous turn of events after another. Culminating with the absurd "cave" scene at the end. On top of that we have to deal with Joan Bennett's appalling English accent which is nothing short of a burlesque. Pidgeon's wooden performance doesn't help matters either. The Thirty-nine Steps this aint!
Superb movie. Another gem from TCM. Reflects many of Fritz Lang's idiosyncracies, and that talent for expressionism (especially those early scenes inside the Third Reich offices.) Pigeon as his usual stilted self, stiff upper lip and all, but George Sanders is deliciously diabolical.
69 years waiting to see this moving picture again
- Gary Giberson
This movie had a strong memory for Me. I was 6 years old when I viewed it with my parents in Atlantic City. Ever since this picture I have been doodling "arrows" It was this movie that stuck in my memory and caused me to always doodle arrows. I have been told there were no copies in existance, so I gave up the task of searching. Last night there it was and BOOM I remembered every sene as it un folded. Sixty- nine years later... This is an exceptional film with a great plot, acted out by an outstanding cast....George Sanders voice really stood out for me. Turner Classics are the greatest time capsel on earth! Thanks Ted!!!
Novel is excellent also.
- Frank Taylor
Man Hunt is based on the unique and well-written novel "Rogue Male" by Geoffrey Household. As Household wrote in 1939 when tensions were high and since he details a plot to kill Hitler, he made it slightly vague as to which totalitarian nation abutting Poland his book was set in, but any discerning reader knows it could only be Germany. The novel is highly recommended (if you can find it).
World War II devotees--Nazi fanaticism.
- M. Cracchiolo
You must put this film at the top of your list. The performances by George Sanders and Walter Pigeon are superb, and the suspense of this movie dealing with fanatical Nazism is timely, once again, when battling enemies against democracy and freedom. I wish this film were available on Home Video; it's a treat for anyone interested in this period.
Man Hunt "important period piece"

Let us not forget the momentous events and heroism of a passing generation and era
Great WWII Nostalgia Film
- John Cunningham
Man Hunt rates right up there with Golden Earings and Cassablanca as one of the most effective and well done anti-Nazi propaganda films of its era. Its part of our history and a view into a bygone time of innocence and black and white values. Its a treasure that should be released for sale.
