During World War II, American government agents Wally and Jinx are deposited on the Tahitian island of Tanukai to determine if fifth column activity is influencing the Tahitians to work for the Japanese. Their contact is murdered after he locates the Nazi's radio transmitter, and so Wally and Jinx befriend a couple of beautiful Tahitian women, Tana and Maui. Tana, whose father is American, desperately wants to leave the island and flirts heavily with the susceptible Wally, while Maui flirts with Jinx. Jinx will not allow himself to be swayed from his duty, however, and he and Wally soon make contact with the Nazi commandant, who plans to deport them in two days. As Wally and Jinx walk through the jungle, they realize that they are being tracked by two French gendarmes under the commandant's order. Wally and Jinx lose the policemen and find the radio set, which they render useless by removing the condenser. The commandant, having received a message that the Japanese intend to land in two days, tries to make the Tahitian chief convince his people to remove the trees and build a landing strip along the beach, but the chief refuses and the commandant arrests him. Wally and Jinx learn that the commandant plans to kill the chief if his people do not bend to his will. With the help of Tana, who distracts gendarme Albert by flirting with him, they release the chief. The commandant kills Albert for his mistake and sends two gendarmes to kill Wally and Jinx. The Americans capture the policemen, however, and learn that the Japanese will land on the island that night. Wally replaces the condenser in the radio and sends a beam transmitting the location of the unbuilt air strip to the Japanese, knowing that they will crash into the trees. The Japanese survive the crash and the plane's superior officer fully expects the commandant to kill himself for his failure. The commandant tries to escape, but Laval, his second-in-command, shoots him. Wally and Jinx then engage in a gun battle with the surviving Japanese and manage to regain control of the island. With the knowledge that the Marines are on their way, Wally agrees to marry Tana and take her to the United States.
