• Very Funny Romantic Comedy!

  "Lover Come Back" (UI 1961) is one of the funniest romantic comedies of the 60's, and in my opinion the best of the three Hudson-Day pairings. Full of great one-liners, gags and subdued sexual innuendo. LCB also has three stars who'd go on to TV fame - Ann B. Davis as Alice the maid on "The Brady Bunch", Donna Douglas as Elly May Clampitt on "The Beverly Hillbillies" (Paul Henning, who co-wrote the screenplay for LCB, was creator of that series), and Joe Flynn as Capt. Binghamton on "McHale's Navy". One thing - the car Doris drove in LCB was a 1961 Plymouth Fury convertible, one of the worst-looking cars ever made. With all that money she made as an ad exec surely she could have tooled around in something better (a Caddy or an imported sports car maybe!)

  As I am writing this brief review of the film it's playing on TCM. It's a light enjoyable film from a time when things were simple and men were men and women were women. the plot can be corny in todays s standard, but it is a movie to escape to with Doris Day. I enjoyed seeing Rock Hudson at his best he was then a lady's man. There is a number of famous character actors that I am familiar with. it is a film to watch in the afternoon. I would call it an afternoon matinee. You have to watch this movie to understand the plot and how Rock Hudson wins the afction of Doris Day. I wouldn,t say it is my faorite movie from the sixties but I grew up in those times and listened to the music to. It's in glorious color so that's good. To end I would say it has a mad man approach but with humour in it....

  What a stinker. I was a freshman in high school when it was in the theaters. I think I remember being amused and titillated by it at the time, but now. after watching it on TCM this evening I just feel depressed! I've always been a Doris Day fan, but sitting through this queasy mix of arch innuendo, tortured plotting, and sluggish pacing has been a real downer. I'm still a fan, but I think I'll stick to her films from the late forties and the fifties from now on.

  The movie is similar to pillow talk but there are some big differences...This is a comedy satire....How the advertising media is so powerful as to influence peoples good judgement....to buy a product that does not exist or even know what it is....Also, the way they get the client, etc,etc...It was also pretty cool how The liquor industry was going to pay Hudson not to market the product that was developed...All in all this movie applies more now about society morays (with the advent of cable and 24 hour news and sports then it did when it was made almost 50 years ago.

  doris day is my fav, but no one seems to address the fact that pillow talk and lover come back as the same movie. same actors, they just changed the names,and jobs.rock hudson finds out who the character doris day is, and he pretends he's some one else to get her to fall for him. in the movie pillow talk it's a party line.in the movie lover come back they are in the advertising business..tony randall is rock hudson's best friend.
