Not Really A Marx Brothers Movie
"Love Happy" was originally supposed to be a Harpo solo movie, but Chico was broke (a hopeless gambler) and needed money, so he was added. Then, the story goes, the producers couldn't get the full financing unless it was sold as a "Marx Brothers" film, so Groucho was added as the film's narrator and appeared in a couple of scenes. The producers then ran out of money and in order to pay for finishing the film, they had Harpo running around a bunch of rooftops with neon signs advertising Mobil Gas and various other products. The whole film looks really cheap (no kidding!) and there is not much of anything funny in it. The only good thing is that the film features an early walk-on from a very young (and drop dead gorgeous) Marilyn Monroe.
The Brothers' Last and Worst Film
- Dan Grissom
I've only seen this movie once and that's probably because it's not a very good movie. It's almost a solo film for Harpo so if your favorite brother is Harpo you might like it. Groucho only makes a cameo. One star. :(
