The working titles of this film were Law of the Badlands and Prairie Thunder. Although a Hollywood Reporter production chart credits Paul Murphy with art direction, the extent of his contribution to the released film has not been determined. This was the first of eight Columbia westerns that teamed Russell Hayden with Bob Willis and His Texas Playboys. In the 1930s, Hayden played a character named "Lucky" in Paramount's "Hopalong Cassidy" series. A modern source states that Columbia hired Cindy Walker to compose songs for the eight films and it is likely that the unattributed songs above were written by her. A Hollywood Reporter news item adds that scenes for the film were shot around Agoura, CA.
