Captain America: The First Avenger features Chris Evans in the title role, playing the WW11 era hero who helps the Allied forces battle the notorious Hydra. The film shows the evolution of Captain America, how he became the hero, and the motivation behind the man's transformation from a weak but patriotic man into the hero that he became. Eventually, the Captain does battle with the Nazi's, in the form of their science organization Hydra. Hydra, led by the notorious Red Skull, seeks to not only overthrow the other Nazi forces, but take over the world as well. In short, the Red Skull sets out to conquer the world, and it's up to Captain America to stop him. This is a fun action movie, for the most part the film sticks to the basics of the comic book version of early Captain America. With recent comic book /super hero films, I often find them a bit goofy with sometimes a slight overload of special effects. That's not really true with this film, although I did think the effects were a bit overcooked during the combat scenes, overall I still thought the films effects were good. The cast helps this film, Evans is perfect As Captain America. Tommy Lee Jones, who plays Colonel Phillips in a sizable role, is the stereotypical military commander: short temper, gruff, generally mean but well meaning. Jones brings his offbeat sense of humor to the role, and it works. Other characters, including Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull and Hayley Atwell as the Captain's love interest, are equally as good. A bonus, and one that always helps, is the soundtrack: a good score done by composer Alan Silvestri. Overall, this is a solid action film with a good story.
