  I tuned into this a couple of minutes after the start, so I missed the credits. I used to watch Weissmuller's TARZAN movies when I was a kid on "Dialing For Dollars" (they called us the one time we didn't have it on!), but don't remember him as Jungle Jim. At first the introduction of George Reeves' character confused me, but I caught on when he reappeared. The "jungle" of Southern California, animals not native to said jungle, the poor almost toothless ancient crocodile (who didn't die even as Johnny pumped him full of lead) and Lita "Isbelita" Baron's hilarious dance were part of the many head-shaking highlights. And George Reeves' clumsy attempts to kill Johnny by first accidentally pushing him over a cliff and then letting his grip slip on the native trying to pull him was one of the worst pieces of acting I've ever seen! After I finished my lunch I had enough......

• Jungle Jim (1948)

  Finally, some real actors turn up in this otherwise typical Weissmuller jungle flick--complete with the apparently mandatory African stock footage, elephant stampede (hilariously sped up), rubber alligator wrestling, tame jungle kitty dance-offs, and (of course) endless swimming scenes (Esther Williams he ain't). And by real actors I mean primarily George Reeves, who is the definition of charming and natural ... even when he's playing the "bad guy." Although, the stalwart Jungle Jim does all the same things the nefarious Bruce Edwards does: kill natives (usually by shoulder tossing them into an apparently bottomless fire-pit) and steal their treasures from them, so I'm not exactly sure what differentiates them as "hero" and "villain," per se. Well, except that George Reeves (destined to go on to play THE most famous comic book character of all time: Superman) is handsome, charismatic, and has a far better physique. Other good actors of this mundane affair include Virginia Grey (playing a sort of female "Clark Kent"), the cute dog, and the bird. Weissmuller, on the other hand, should have stuck to sporting events. May Michael Phelps never be handed a film script (shudder).

  Awful, but great jungle flick from the 1940's. Always enjoyed them.

  It may be badly acted with corny sets and extremely politically incorrect but I love every second of it.Before Bond; Weismuller said,when asked who he was,"Jim,Jungle Jim".Love it!!!

  Surprisingly lame and extremely low budget, a big step down for Johnny Weismuller. Too much stock footage used, the score is over done. Not very well acted. Often referred as "Tarzan with clothes on", but it's not at all in the same league as his Tarzan films.
