  • Inspiring Bio Movie!

This movie about Jim Thorpe, the famous Native American sports hero who rose to the top against many odds only to have all the glory taken away on a technicality, is very inspirational and wonderful. With a great cast lead by Burt Lancaster as Jim Thorpe and Charles Bickford as his persevering mentor and coach, we are shown how a person can take so many hard falls in life & yet manage to pick themselves up again & find their true calling finally, when least expected. Great story!

  • Jim Thorpe All-American - Great Bio Movie!

I remember loving this movie as a kid back in the 50s. It's so inspiring and I wish all young people today would watch it to see what real American heroism is all about. Jim Thorpe was an American Indian played here so well by Burt Lancaster - who had a meteoric rise to the top in sports winning many Olympic medals only to have them all taken away due to a "technical" error beyond his control. In this move as played by Burt Lancaster, Jim Thorpe show us what true determination, honor, dignity and perseverance are all about when faced with such difficult overwhelming circumstances. Everyone in it is great, direction is top notch and the older I get, the more I appreciate the talents of Burt Lancaster (& Joel McCrea)!

I am astonished at so few reviews on this magnificent film. This is the type of film that should be a "must-see", not only for all young people, but, for ALL people of today. This bio epitomizes the qualities of the human heart that seem to be disappearing today: passion, integrity, fair-play, tenacity, honesty. Please keep showing this film, TCM, and all others like it. Thank you for all you do.
