Come Back JW!

I would recommend a remaking of this movie, but I would not want it to veer too much from the original screenplay. Its brilliance in a time when such topics as ethnic discrimination were almost never discussed would be impossible to duplicate. If the original film quality could be cleaned up to modern audio and video standards, I believe it could be a 21st century blockbuster. I first saw the movie in the early 1960s in a small semi-rural Alabama town, where I sat as a teenager with my boyfriend in the balcony where African Americans had to sit in the theater. My mother had read about the movie at the time of its release, but there was no way such an honest look at individual prejudice would have been shown in our town then. When it did come to town, she and my daddy saw it together, and I will always remember it as the first movie I was allowed to attend with a boy that same week. I also credit it with having illustrated to me that biased behavior is not just a matter of meanness but is more the result of human fear, greed, and jealousy. Bring back JAPANESE WAR BRIDE to the movies! I must also credit it with illustrating to me that biased behavior is not always just a matter of meanness, but is also symptomatic of human fear, greed, and jealousy. Bring back JAPANESE WAR BRIDE to the movies!
