• The Curse of Money

  I cannot imagine why Paramount/Universal has not released this film. Not only is it significant historically being an unusual anthology for a studio picture of that time but it has one of the greatest bits that WC Fields has ever done. It is very dated although there is extraordinary irony in some of the stories. Be prepared for an off-beat, not always funny view of someone attempting to do the right thing. I would have loved to sit in the studio meetings when they decided to do this one.

• A million reasons to enjoy this film

  This aired on TCM a few nights ago. It was great. Some parts could've been eliminated...namely, those stories where the money did not help. For example, the guy on death row was unable to save himself, and so his million dollars went back to the old man (and the man was trying to get rid of his money so that his relatives would not inherit it!). Then, there was the segment with Gary Cooper who cashes it for ten bucks. That's obviously ironic, but what was the point? The best sequences were the ones in which the characters lives were truly altered and made better by the experience of receiving the unexpected windfall: mainly, the one where Fields and his lady get to enact revenge on road hogs; the one where Laughton gets to tell his boss off; and (my favorite), the one where May Robson takes over the retirement home. Finally, I think the film could've been enhanced by showing the old man convening with all the recipients at a party they give in his honor at his home. That would truly show he has something to live for now.

• W C Fields takes revenge on bad drivers

  Having seen this movie on TV years ago, I must admit that the only part I remember is WC Fields & his lady running bad drivers off the road. But what a memorable comedy bit that was! I'd love to get a chance to see it again just for that.

  I SAW THIS MOVIE ON PBS STATION YEARS AGO AND LOVED IT EVER SINCE. IT WAS A GOOD BALANCE OF COMEDY & TRAGEDY.I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS AVAILABLE ON VIDEO OR DVD. BUT NOW I'M GOING TO PLACE AN ORDER TO ADD TO MY COLLECTION.IT'S STAR STUDED AND WELL WRITTEN.
