  I was surprised at how good this film actually is, as my expectations were quite low when I first viewed it. The real life characters, Frank and Jesse James, Bob Ford and Edward O'Kelley are woven throughout the film closely aligning what happened in reality. There is a lot of artistic license here, e.g. Edward O'Kelley (not 'Kelley' as in the film) didn't kill Bob Ford in a shoot out on the street but actually killed him in Ford's tent saloon, but that can easily be forgiven. Preston Foster, as Kelley, gives a taciturn but strong performance; however, John Ireland as Bob Ford is a real surprise. He is excellent as the vilified "man who shot Jesse James" when Ford actually expected the public would be grateful for the "service." I wasn't bored at all with this film and I quite liked it.

  Ford cut cord on life of killer he adored. I was bored. However, Ireland is admirable as the coward in this almost totally fictitional tale of his existence after assassinating his respected friend, a robbing hoodlum.
