FULL SYNOPSIS

powered by AFI

Forger Torgut Lane escapes from prison with the help of a fellow inmate and is then taken in by Domack, the secret German leader of a band of Gestapo saboteurs. Lane is at first grateful to his rescuers, but when they keep him hostage at a Los Angeles amusement park, he learns that he is expected to use his talents to make counterfeit bills and bonds which would disrupt the Allied war effort. Lane reluctantly agrees to their demands after Domack's second-in-command, Martin, threatens to harm Lane's mother. After befriending Helen, a park employee who has no knowledge of the spy ring, Lane decides to foil the saboteurs by engraving a message, which includes his mother's address, to the FBI on the counterfeit plates. He then convinces Gordan, an impressionable young German spy, to steal some of the counterfeit money. Gordan is killed when he falls from a train, and the FBI discovers the message on the counterfeit bills. After freeing Lane's mother from her Gestapo guard, the FBI hunts down the saboteurs' headquarters and arrives at the park just as Martin, who has discovered Lane's plot, is about to kill Lane and Helen. Martin and Domack then escape, intending to plant explosives at an oil refinery, but they are seized by the FBI. Although he is cited for bravery, Lane returns to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence, and Helen, with whom he has fallen in love, promises to wait for him.
