  The best of Castle's gimmicky horror films. Price is a wealthy man who invites a group of people into his haunted house for the chance to gain $10,000. Obvious special effects are only fault in an otherwise effective & unintentionally funny film. Good entertainment during Halloween time. I give it a 3.5/5.

  Another gem from Master Showman , William Castle. Who else could build a film around the "Ennis Brown" mansion, located in a heavily populated area, and provide an hour and a half of spooky entertainment, with Vincent Price as the creepy host . Frederick Loren(Vincent Price) invites 7 guests for an overnite stay, with each of them to receive $10,000 if they survive. Supposedly picked by an unknown set of demgraphics, probably before the term was popularized , each guest is there for a reason only known to Price. Elijah Cook, jr also stars as Watson Pritchard, who was supposedly attacked by the ghosts. Terrifically atmospherric, sometimes goofy, but for a date film hits on all cylinders. The "House on Haunted Hill" provides that needed boost to knock us off the edge of our seats, but entertainingly and with good taste. Gets 5 stars simply because it works for what it does and is.
