The film's working title was Bringing Up Joey. The opening title cards read: "Allied Artists Pictures Corporation presents Huntz Hall and The Bowery Boys in Hot Shots." Hot Shots was the first feature film of child actor Phil Phillips. Modern sources add Myron Cook, Dick Foote, Ralph Gamble, Marilyn Gladstone, Joe Gray, William Janssen, Joe Kirk, Jenny Lea, Gloria Pall and Foster H. Phinney to the cast.
