Compelling action yarn ever, classic, good FX & modelling, feels like Tom Clancey novel now.Good solid Cold War storyline & huge Arctic ice set.Saw it in Cinerama dome in Hollywood thenHave DVD.Like to see remake this time with the Arctic under some super storm so planes from US & Russia or now China cant overfly Arctic, thus US & now Chinese subs race to Ice Station Zebra 3 to collect data denoting some "super weapon" caused this Arctic stormWe could use sub models from Hunt for Red Oct anew & update plot with terrorists aside sabotuers & espionage BUT updated for Today IE use todays techOur sub can be named USS Tigerfish but its a LA class attack sub or VA class type vs type from orig movie.Need new cast to replay roles from orig movie or use video cameos.Best MGM movie made for 1968

For the life of me, I don't understand why this film was a box office flop! It has top notch actors, gorgeous cinematography, the score is by Michel LeGrand, the director is John Sturges. the screenplay is by Alistair MacLean and it's just a darned good story! What's not to like? I watch this film each time it is on and I have yet to find fault with it. Roger Ebert said the performances were "flat" but I completely disagree. What did he want? Rock Hudson dancing along the ice? If you enjoy a good and suspense filled film, watch this one! It is excellent!

  • Excellent who done it

Outstanding suspenseful movie with great actors and plot. If you are interested in seeing a really great movie full of suspense and who done it, don't miss this one. Patrick McGoohan should have won an oscar for this movie along with Ernest Borgnine for supporting actor. Kind of lengthy but worth watching. Could easily have won best picture of the year, at least in my book.

Epic big screen adventure that is set on the polar cap during the cold war. Great use of that day'stechnology with full logistics. A true West over East Cold War vehicle. Great blend of mystery, spy game, and conquest with an all out get it done attitude. The camera view inside the submarine is stellar. At times your pulled right into the film. Should go down as a timeless adventure. Casting is superb with pros like Ernie and Rock. Plenty of thrills and big excitement from start to finish.
