Hitler's Children: a window into our future
- Steve
- 3/7/13
The last time I saw Hitler's Children, not too many years ago, impressed me greatly. As I watch today's headlines unfold, I see startling similarities all around us. Over the last 4 years we've seen the rise of a man eerily reminiscent of Hitler: Barack Obama. From the introduction of (Obama's) 'brown shirts' to intimidation of his opposition to outright - widespread - fraud. Watch this movie for a preview of events to come...perhaps sooner than you would expect.

Is this movie going to be put on DVD before I die? I am 62, and apart from my prior review, this movie describes Hitler's Nazi Germany better than any film I've seen: The sterilization of female political opponents or troublesome women; the persecution of mainstream religions, in this case, Catholicism; the reporting of parents by their children; the encouragement of babies born out of wedlock for Hitler; small sacrifices made by ordinary Germans against the regime and their imprisonment in concentration camps if caught or reported. I can't see why TCM is recording to DVD obviously inferior movies concerning Nazi Germany and putting this movie so low on its priority list for DVD. Could TCM please reconsider the rank that this movie is put on DVD, and put it out before I die of old age.

I am 62 and remember this movie since I was a child watching it on TV. Karl and Anna fall in love, but their love is quashed by the Nazis. Karl was born in America, but of German parents...so he's German. Anna was born in Germany, but her parents became Americans....so she's German. Anna is basically kidnapped by the Nazis and forced to be a "good German" by joining the BDM. Karl becomes a leader in the Nazi Youth Movement, but is still in love with Anna, as she is with him. Karl suggests that her loyalty would not be questioned if he and Anna have an out of wedlock baby for Hitler. She refuses, Karl sees the light and they are both murdered while on a radio broadcast designed for them to denounce their treacherous activity. This movie should be made available for Home Video as it shows how totalitarian governments feed their youth propaganda to get them to sacrifice their lives for their Fuhrer. government.

THIS ONE BRINGS BACK OLD MEMORIES & FEARS

I FIRST SAW THIS MOVIE IN 1943; I WAS A TEENAGER AT THE TIME, WHICH WAS DURING WWII. IT HAD A PROFOUND AFFECT ON ME - THE WAR CAME MUCH CLOSER TO HOME. UNKNOW TO ME AT THE TIME IT PORTRAYED SOME OF WHAT WAS ACTUALLY GOING ON IN GERMANY, AND FORETOLD OF THE CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY THAT HITLER AND HIS ILK WERE INVOLVED IN. NOW I FEAR SOME EARLY SEEDS OF THE ATTITUDE SHOWN IN THE MOVIE MAY BE REFLECTED IN OUR CURRENT ADMINISTRATION IN WASHINGTON. DOES THE SPEECH TO SCHOOL CHILDREN ON THE 8TH OF SEPTEMBER 2009 FORETELL WHAT MAY BE TRIED IN THE U.S.A.? WE ARE IN SCARY TIMES!

Heavy going, quite over the top but understandable at the time. The performances tend to be melodramatic. It is however a fascinating slice of World War II propaganda.
