FULL SYNOPSIS

powered by AFI

At the age of 17, Jamie McGregor is depressed by the realization that, unlike both his friend Spike and his younger brother Joe, he is still a virgin, and he vows to experience sexual intercourse before he enters a university in the fall. Certain that the girl of his dreams, Mary Gloucester, is pure and unattainable, he decides to look elsewhere for sexual gratification. Jamie makes advances in a park to the curvaceous Linda, but he leaves her abruptly when he sees Mary waiting for a bus. He next takes up with Paula but soon learns that her flirtatious behavior is only a trap to induce him to work for a fund-raising church social. His next encounter is with aristocratic Caroline Beauchamp, who invites him to spend a weekend at her parents' country manor. Jamie's visit turns into an alcoholic orgy, but Caroline falls into a drunken stupor before he can seduce her. He returns home and attends a mattress party. There he is about to yield to the free-loving Audrey when Mary lures him away with the promise of a date. On a trip to a nearby lake, Jamie's illusions are completely shattered when he discovers that Mary is actually promiscuous. When she chides him for his romantic notions, Jamie, now disgusted, swears off women and vows to concentrate on his studies. When school ends, he meets Mary's pretty friend Claire and is thrilled to learn that he and Claire will attend the same university.
