Hel's Heroes (1930)
- James Higgins
What a sweet western, beautifully acted, especially by Charles Bickford, Quite unusual for its time. excellent cinematography. So believably done. William Wylers direction is superb.
Gritty early Wyler Keeper
This is a good tough western. Early enough that the pretty rule was not yet in effect. You can taste the dust and feel the heat. The depth of the characters and circumstances much more satisfying then the tepid John Wayne Three Godfathers remake.Great visual sense and excellent character development and execution. Extraordinary denouncement, elegant convergence of ideals and fate.
Loved it, and now that I think about it it has been remade in one form or another for the last 60+ years. I think the THree Godfathers was a straight remake, then you have three men and a baby in the 90's if I'm not mistaken.
Hells Heroes is a Clasic
- Jeffrey M. Andrus
What a great mivie. Dirty dusty cowboys. This is the west. I have seen it twice in 15 years and have told people about it. It does not get the air time deserved. Please release it for purchase. Thank you, Jeff
Relive Bodie in a movie made in Bodie
- Joseph (Joe)
The silent and stillness of today's Bodie can come alive again in a movie made in Bodie; it's a place you can say, "I was there and saw that same building."
Classic story retold, with views of Bodie, CA
- Dave Tavres
This is a classic story that has been told and retold many times. One of the most unique things about this film, is that segments were shot in the town of Bodie, California - now a California State Park. The scenes that feature Bodie are quit amazing. If you've never been to Bodie, do a Google search for "Bodie" and visit the websites for information and pictures. In the film, they have a large, beautiful black hearse being pulled down Main St. The hearse from the movie is now located in the Miner's Union Hall in town. Please, vote to bring this film to Home Video / DVD so we can help to preserve Bodie's memory.
