This is truly a great film. When Harry told his son that his driver's license expired in 1958, I laughed out loud.I'm an animal lover so Harry's love and devotion to his cat is very moving and brought me to tears. This is probably one of the best films ever made.

I was fortunate enough to view tcm last night, which is my very favorite channel.I had never seen "Harry & Tonto" & it is truly a class act with Art Carney & great cast.I just viewed the trailers & it brought it back for sure. One day I would love to join the tcm cruise!I put this one in a great category with "Fried Green Tomatoes", "Driving Miss Daisy" & "Dancing with the White Dog".

  • Art Carney's Oscar Winning Performance!

It's great that this classic 70's film is being shown on TCM, but odd that the star of the movie gets 3rd billing, particularly since he won the Academy's Best Actor Oscar for his utterly charming performance of an elderly man's unusual adventure of self discovery across America. A number of short, but poignent performances by Ellen Burstyn, Larry Hagman, Chief Dan George and a host of others sparkle in this zen-like comedy. Definitely a one of a kind experience, in all the best way. Wise, eccentric and very touching.
