Joe Daylight and his gang of border raiders--The Kid, Doc, and Henri--cross into Mexico, fleeing from an American posse. The plan was to meet the rest of the gang and then divide the stolen money, but Joe tells his gunfighters that instead he has used the money to buy a ranch. Some of the men protest, but they are soon brought into line and taken to the ranch by "The Traveler," a new member of the gang. The Traveler and The Kid become acquainted with María and her maid, Pacesita, and begin to enjoy living on the Casa Grande. Joe, however, is formulating a plan to rustle neighbors' cattle and drive the herd across the border, where post--Civil War beef prices insure a high profit. A temporary interruption occurs when a gang of bandits led by Rojo threatens the area, but Joe organizes the other ranchers for protection, and they succeed in chasing Rojo away. By this time conflict among Joe's men has increased, and most of them prefer to remain in Mexico. Joe responds to Doc's objections by shooting him, but Joe himself is killed by The Traveler, who has fallen in love with María. The two plan a new life together on the Casa Grande.
