Where is this version?

Sorry, this isn't a review. I don't know where to post this. Nobody from TCM reads this site anyway. It's just for plugging the shows. My question: As a child I saw the Alan Ladd version which at that time seemed to be a great movie. I've never seen it since! What happened to it, and why was it never shown again? Reminds me of Manchurian Candidate disappearing after the Kennedy assassination.

my mom had told me about this one all my life and i never did get to see it on tv. finally i found a very bad copy that cost too much and was completely unviewable with audio that was impossible to hear. later i tried again and did get a copy i could see and hear, but not well. but at least i can say i've seen it now. it was worthwhile and it isn't that old, so why has it disappeared? lots of people love alan ladd, why can't they all get to see this. it is an excellent performance by him.

The Great Gatsby (1949 Alan Ladd version)
- Frank Faunce
- 2/25/09
The Great Gatsby starring Alan Ladd in the 1949 version is an excellent example of film noir that deserves to be recognized as a black and white masterpiece of light and shadow. The brooding nature of the storyline and Alan Ladd's excellent performance as Jay Gatsby fulfills the expectations of the original story as the author intended. And the photography is superb! Needs to be seen by all fans of the film noir films.
