Great little film find!

This is an interesting film with a twist to the robbery type of crime genre. One man, Lawrence Harvey, is cut off from funds by his wealthy wife. He meets three hapless saps and, rather than appealing to their greed, he appeals to their circumstance in order to get them to assist him in robbing the British Post. One man's wife is ill & expecting a baby. One man has had his hand amputated in the fight game. The last man is very much in love with his wife but she fancies herself as a famous actress and is interested in money. The machinations they go through to execute their plan are interesting, as is the way they end up not trusting one another. You cannot watch this film without your attention being called to a very young and beautiful Joan Collins, who portrays Richard Basehart's wife, as she is simply stunning here. Interesting to note that the book on which this film is based had the setting in America; however, as British banks were funding the film, it was set in Britain.

Great Cast & Intriguing Story

The 1954 suspense gem stars a mixed British/American cast. I believe it is a British production. Laurence Harvey & Margaret Leighton, Richard Basehart & Joan Collins, John Ireland & Gloria Grahame, and Stanley Baker & Rene Ray are four troubled couples. The men all believe they need money desperately to solve their various dilemmas. Laurence Harvey meets them all in a pub and plans a heist. This is lots of fun and fairly suspenseful.
