I can't believe I missed the last showing just a few weeks ago. I only now learned of it from a New Yorker article when I searched Le Schpountz. I'm irate. I love this movie, and TCM only shows it seemingly annually (and almost always at 3 AM, for whatever reason). Please, feature this again, and more often - your executives know that it's not on any Region 1 DVD, right?

Is this movie available anywhere? A pohantastic performance by one of my favorite actors, Ferdandel. I saw it several years ago on Austrian TV in the original French with German subtitles, would love to see it again with English subtitles. Where was it shown on 1/04/10?

Middle of the night treat!

I was sleepless the last day of Christmas Break and restlessly awaiting the start of a new semester. At 2 a.m. I decided to do laundry...turned on the tv hoping to bore my 3 year old daughter who had followed me down to the laundry room, and discovered "Le Schpountz." I adore old movies for the atmosphere, quiet, and historical record. I love foreign films because of the altered perspective they give us on our approach to life, love, and conflict. At first, I was not terribly drawn in, but each time I resolved to turn it off after the next turn for le schpountz I kept hanging on to see his inevitable downfall! Delightful, charming, and historically interesting. I know delightful and charming are overused when folks discuss movies, but it was just that. Really a fun bit and I'd love to see it again. Doubly so, since I'm a middle school French teacher and wouldn't mind showing it to kids.

I saw this movie once several years ago and believe it is one of the funniest films of all time. Wish I had known it would be on this morning. Wish it were available on dvd.
