After their father's death, three sisters and their husbands are forced to go to a deserted island off Maine where, according to his will, they must spend time in an old mansion. They are met there by two old women and a demented hunchback. While at the mansion all three men are killed. One is found hanged; another is killed by a hooded figure who disembowels him with a butcher knife; the last is found with a pitchfork in his throat. One of the sisters is decapitated, and her head is served on a dinner platter. The two surviving sisters are cornered by the killer on a staircase. The killer, one of the old women, discloses herself to be the illegitimate half sister of their late father. She has killed everybody because she wants the estate for herself and is about to slay the two sisters with a meat ax, but the hunchback stops her. She sets him on fire, but he manages to get the ax from her and uses it to kill her as they fall downstairs.
