I love this film and I have only seen it twice in my life. Why it is not shown more on TCM I do not understand, but it is real and honest in it's story telling of different generations. It is a shame more viewers cannot enjoy this heartwarming film.

A movie that gives you a good feeling and a time where we all enjoyed ,who lived in the 50s I was born in 1950 but I can relate to the Italian in the movie since I am one myself .I wish this movie came in a dvd.

Although my surname is Irish, the Frederick is in keeping with the Italian custom of naming the second born son after the mother;s father. I only knew my Italian grandfather, I would sit in his garden eating plum tomato's as he told me stories of his expoits in Italy. They were more impressive than the stories of Uncle Mingo, especially the one where my grandfather saved the life of the Count of Monte Cristo. a wide eyed six year old was very impressed with these srories. My grandfather was a cabinet maker, and my friends would be impressed when they saw him put a peice of wood in his lathe and run a chissel across it and at the end pull out a basebal bat, sand it and give it to us to go out and play. I see so much of him in the father in Full Of Life, I lost my grandfather in 12/26/52, and I am waiting to add it to my DVD collection so I can retire the old wornout tape I have, to view inbetween rare showings of it.

A terrific movie that should be available on DVD if only so that people can understand that what we encounter now our parents and grandparents went through also. Check out the dialogue in the movie. You will be surprised and pleased.

  • A great family movie

I was raised in an Italian home in the 1950's. My Sicilian grandfather, who just happened to be a maestro in stone, just as Papa in the movie, had a similar relationship with his non-Sicilian daughter-in-law (my mother). He and his son (my father) differed the way Papa and Nick did sometimes. My PaPa made a fireplace for me in my parents first house ("Joosta in case somaday you gotta no heat, my babies be nice e warm"). I cry from the joys of my being raised in the midst of such love every time I see this movie, which you really must release on DVD so I can make sure my entire family sees it.This movie has only one flaw: Papa drank too much. I was raised around these people. They all drank wine every day, but never, ever EVER displayed any sign of drunkedness. It does not fit in with the tradition of honor to the family. I can only assume that this oversight must have occurred because either the writer or director was not Italian. Otherwise it is a magnificent picture of what it actually was to be raised in a family of proud immigrants struggling to assimilate to the American lifestyle. Please put it on again soon and release it on DVD in time to give as Christmas gifts. Thank you.

The first time I saw this movie I was overwhelmed. The story of the emotions a couple go through before their first child is born can relate to the year 2007 as well as 1957. I loved this beautiful movie. How many votes does it take before a movie is considered for release? I would love to see this movie released soon. My daughter is expecting her first child and would love for her to have a chance to see this movie. Do you know if it will be shown again this month so I can tape it?

Please work to make this available on DVD. It should be available so more people can have their own copy.

Sweet, tender movie. Characters are so real that you care about their problems. All the actors are perfectly cast, but Judy Holliday and Richard Conte are so good they are one with their characters.

Frequently funny, often tender and moving, this movie is a little gem. It's an engaging story about a young couple struggling with life on a budget who receive the not always predictable assistance of the husband's father. I wish I could get on DVD.
