A society woman and her husband blackmail the men who flirt with her.
In London, British army officer Captain Geoffrey Roberts falls in love with the beautiful, exotic Alva Sangrito, unaware that she is married and that her husband Victor is a coldhearted blackmailer. Although Alva has been a willing lure in Victor's blackmailing schemes, she realizes that she has fallen in love with Geoffrey and tries to resist her husband's plotting. After paying Victor £5,000 to keep quiet about his affair with Alva, Geoffrey leaves London for India, where he is assigned to command a remote British outpost. Soon after his arrival, Geoffrey is joined by his close friend, Lieutenant Ned Nichols, an energetic junior officer, and while discussing their recent lives, both former playboys reveal that they are now deeply in love with a beautiful woman. Later, Geoffrey discovers Alva's portrait in Ned's room and confronts him about it. Shocked by the coincidence, Ned accuses Geoffrey of lying about the nature of his relationship with Alva and storms away in a fury. That night, news of a bandit raid arrives, and Geoffrey puts aside his anger and offers Ned the chance to command an emergency expedition. When Ned fails to return, Geoffrey rides after him, risking his life to save his friend. Reconciled, Geoffrey and Ned bravely burn Alva's photograph and swear their allegiance to each other. Meanwhile, when a lovesick Alva refuses to participate further in Victor's blackmailing of Geoffrey, she is beaten brutally. Distressed by Alva's screams, the sympathetic butler shoots and kills Victor. Months later, during their leave in London, the two heartbroken friends attend a weekend party, where they are surprised by the appearance of Alva and her aristocratic French fiancé. After rejecting Alva's vows of love, Geoffrey assures a jealous Ned that he no longer loves the widow and reaffirms his commitment to their friendship. When Ned later finds Alva in Geoffrey's arms, however, he threatens them with a gun and, in his rage, fires at them. Startled by his own violence, Ned finally accepts Alva's true love for Geoffrey and, just as Alva is about to depart from their lives, releases Geoffrey by telling him that love for a woman is more important than friendship.
