After the enjoyable earlier movies in this series, the casting in this one ruined everything.

The Oliver "Miss Withers" films were minor gems, mostly due to her performance. Why they chose Zasu Pitts to act the part is more of a mystery than the one at the center of this minor movie. Pitts doesn't shed her fluttery-scatterbrained persona even though she's supposed to be a crack detective, using some pratfalls and hand gestures that are totally out of character.
