Sadly unknown poignant comedy

TCM should bill this one night with All About Eve for two very different takes on the same theme. A sparkling script executed with professional aplomb by a cast of old pros (and one William Holden in his prime). Paul Douglas steals the show.

Forever Female (1954)

Dull, slow-moving, and hard to watch. This is the first Ginger Rogers film I've seen in which she was the least interesting actor of the lot. Paul Douglas was the best thing in it by far. Never got the appeal of William Holden, and if "ingenue" Pat Crowley was any more psychotically annoying she'd be Betsy Drake. Look for an insultingly brief appearance by George Reeves at the beginning of the picture.
