Better Than Hollywood Canteen

This film was better plotted out,George Raft was a delight!Other star turns were quite good, couldn't stand Joan Leslie story in H'wood Canteen, too false, this really works well and all actors involved deserved accolades!Loved George Macready as a good guy, quite fine-looking here.

A WWII Universal Extravaganza!

Much like Warner Bros. HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN of the same year, FOLLOW THE BOYS was Universal's all-star effort for the war, offering prime entertainment from the studio's impressive roster, & a more entertaining & better-acted plot which was not as boring & interfering with the entertainment segments as was the plot of its aforementioned competitor. Some great guest-star turns, like Orson Welles sawing Marlene Dietrich in half, Jeannette MacDonald lilting "Beyond the Blue Horizon," comedic bits of business from W.C. Fields & Sophie Tucker, some big-band turns, & a hits medley from the studio's star musical attraction: Patty, Maxene & LaVerne, The Andrews Sisters, whose segments are a mix of studio shots & actual location footage of the trio entertaining stateside military personnel. George Raft, Vera Zorina & a few trusted contract players act the plot with much more credibility than Robert Hutton & Joan Leslie in HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN. Unfortunately, FOLLOW THE BOYS was released years ago on VHS, but has yet to see the light of day on DVD.
