Worth seeking out
Impassioned John Garfield, noir RKO lighting, Maltese-Falcon-lite plot, what's not to like? Would have been near-great if the script wasn't advancing the plot through spoken references to off-screen characters instead of just showing them. Thanks to DVR magic, you can stop the show and rewind; film rewards with a second showing. Young-ish Maureen O'Hara gets luminous glamour light at times amid gloom of sets to be reused on Seventh Veil; Much of supporting cast could pass as vampires but they're really Nazis; Roy Webb's musical motif for the man-with-the-limp reminds of a certain shark. Overall 3 3/4 stars.
Garfield and O'Hara Great
- Deborah Mortellaro
This movie has been on my radar to watch but I did not get the chance until now, during 31 Days of Oscar. It did not disappoint. The Fallen Sparrow has all of the elements that make movies work and I agree with another comment made, that this movie is under-rated and overlooked. John Garfield and Maureen O'Hara were superb in their roles. This is a gem and I highly recommend watching it.
Upcoming 100th Birthday of Patricia Morison
Just watched a 2012 interview with her,and she is amazing! She's still beautiful. Can't wait to see this film again.
Great study of the human spirit
- Eddie Natale
This is an underated and forgotten movie.Garfield,is riveting,as the tortured vet, trying to conquer his fears,it is a great example of the enduring human spirit. It is filled with great characters,a component, that is sadly missing from today`s movies.I highly reccomend this movie,if you like film noir or suspense.
