Superb Lucille Ball and Bob Hope
Bob Hope the man with a gag a minute and Lucy Ball whacky as a commedience were in real life superb performers. The Facts Of Life is a fine film that could have been better had it reached for the edge of the story, adultery. Ms. Ball and Mr. Hope were both favorites of the TV world and likely afraid to be to daring thus offend sponsors and audiences alike. Ms. Ball was beautiful in this film which was filmed at Desilu but a United Artists film.
The title fits perfectly...

Adult Love in Real Life
This is a charming movie about mature people who have taken each other for granted for years, and who, much to their surprise, fall in love. It is something of an answer to the suburban exposes and suggestive comedies prevalent in the early 1960s. Ball and Hope play members of a prosperous group of friends who find themselves inadvertently the only ones who are able to take advantage of a planned vacation in Mexico. While not particularly interested in each other in the past, they discover that they have a lot in common and enjoy each others' company. When they return from the trip, they begin to serruptitiously "date," and gradually find themselves in love. Ultimately, common sense, and the complicated logistics of giving up their respective families, make them realize that they would be better off leaving well enough alone. However, they are somehow refreshed by the experience, and have no regrets. The ending is bittersweet, but satisfying - at least to the audience. The movie is very gentle, funny, and very pretty to look at. Ball is wonderful as a middle-aged woman who thought she was "past it," and Hope gives a subdued and skillful performance as a man who never thought he'd be courting anyone again, let alone that woman. They are very, very good together. Highly recommended.
