On the run after a million dollar jewelry heist, robbers Kirk Taylor and Philip Courtney race down a country road in a stolen jeep with their girl friends Karen and Suzanne. When the jeep runs out of gas, the robbers camouflage the vehicle under brush. Now unable to rendezvous with their jewelry fence in Miami, Philip and Kirk decide to hide out with some unsuspecting "hillbillies" until the police roadblocks have been removed. Meanwhile, self-righteous moonshiner Harlin Craigen and his dimwitted hired hand Toby deliver their goods to prostitute Jesibell, whom Harlin chastises for her "godless" life, despite his own illegal business. Back in the woods, Kirk and Philip, with the high-heeled, scantily clad Karen and Suzanne, stumble upon Rita Sue, Harlin's new wife, who invites the strangers into her humble shack. While Karen and Suzanne are busy bathing in a nearby pond, Harlin returns home towing the jeep and, seeing Kirk and Philip alone with his wife, accuses Rita Sue of sleeping with them. To erase Harlin's suspicions, Philip explains that the jeep is theirs, but it is Suzanne's voluptuous body that convinces the moonshiner to allow the strangers to spend the night. Later, a drunken Harlin, who is avidly listening to the fire and brimstone preaching on "Brother Love" Christian radio show, refuses Rita Sue's sexual advances, while Kirk lustfully watches from the window. Just as Harlin and Rita Sue overhear the radio reports on the two robbers and their girl friends, Philip pulls out a gun and orders the couple to cooperate and allow them to spend a few days there. Deciding they need to "blend in," the outlaws dress in Rita Sue and Harlin's old clothes. Soon after, Kirk corners the helpless Rita Sue in her bedroom and attacks her. At first she resists him, but then eagerly has sex with him, having been refused sex by her husband since their wedding night. A spiteful Suzanne spies on the couple making love and then tells Karen, who jealously attacks Rita Sue. In self-defense, Rita Sue hits Karen with a moonshine bottle, killing the woman. Philip then orders Toby and Harlin to dig a grave, threatening to turn them over to the police for Karen's murder if they do not keep quiet. Philip then berates Suzanne for inciting Karen's vengeful tirade and threatens to hurt her if she causes more trouble. Kirk tries again to sleep with Rita Sue, who slaps him, but raptly listens as Kirk offers her jewels and a chance to escape with him to start a new life. Rita Sue confides that her father traded her to Harlin to pay off a two-hundred dollar debt. Philip, greedy for more money, orders Suzanne to have sex with Harlin in order to learn where he keeps his moonshine profits. Later in the moonshine shed, Kirk holds Harlin and Toby at gunpoint, announcing he and Philip will be taking over the business, prompting Harlin to overtake him and stab Kirk to death with a pitchfork. Trying to escape in the truck, Harlin and Toby accidentally run over Suzanne in the yard and then flee, but soon run out of gas. Philip, who has followed them in the jeep, chases the men on foot into the woods, where Toby is caught in a bear trap. Philip easily kills Toby and then pursues Harlin, who is only a few yards ahead. Dropping to his knees, Harlin begs God to spare him, promising to sell moonshine only to Christians, and is thus not surprised when he easily kills Philip by beating him with a stick. Returning home, Harlin decides to fence the jewels and start a new life, by himself. Hearing the faint voice of Kirk's promise of a new life of her own and realizing Harlin will share nothing with her, Rita Sue takes a gun from the jewel case and kills her husband.
