The "blue movie" is seen in historical perspective, from its beginnings as an "underground" form of entertainment viewed at stag parties and fraternity houses, through the peep show and burlesque era, to its emergence as a legitimate cinematic genre. A FREE RIDE (ca 1915): A driver has a sexual adventure with two hitchhikers in the country. ON THE BEACH (ca 1920): A man sees two women through a fence and steals their clothes. He then has intercourse with a goat through a hole in the fence, having been tricked into thinking that the animal is one of the women. Later one of the women pretends that she is pregnant and blackmails him. BURIED TREASURE (also known as EVER READY): A cartoon devoted to phallic fantasies involving humans and animals. THE JANITOR (also known as CREEPING TOM): A drunken janitor peers through the keyholes in his building and watches an artist engage in sex play with his nude models. THE NONE STORY: A nun enters a motel room, removes her habit, and erotically stimulates herself. A man who had been watching through the window confronts her, and they make love. SMART ALEC: Stripper Candy Barr makes love with an unidentified man in a Texas motel room. Following this historical overview, several of Alex deRenzy's San Francisco Screening Room Productions are presented as examples of the direction of the modern sex film industry. A nude woman frankly discusses her sexual experiences in an interview. THE MASSEUSE depicts the sexual relations between a masseuse and her client. Alex deRenzy interviews a hippie couple who have answered an advertisement in the Berkeley Barb soliciting models; the couple are then filmed making love.
