An off-screen foreword, narrated by actor Jeff Chandler, describes the bloodthirsty pirates who prowled the water off the American coast and used Charleston, South Carolina, as their safe haven. According to a September 1949 Hollywood Reporter news item, Rock Hudson was cast, but he does not appear in the final film. The same article identifies Walter Scharf as the musical director, but he is not listed in any other source and it is not known if he contributed to the final film. Other Hollywood Reporter news items add the following actors to the cast: Howard Petrie, Raymond Bond, Patricia O'Callaghan, George Leigh, Arthur Porter, Gavin Muir, Ralph Byrd, William Fawcett, Duke York, Mickey Simpson, Howard Negley and Chester Conklin, but their appearance in the final film has not been confirmed.
