When I was a kid, in the fifties, we used to laugh and shake our heads after being taught this bull. Anyone, with half a brain and access to Real information which WAS available, New, you could duck and cover all you wanted it wasn't going to save you. THINK ABOUT IT. Gas stations on every other corner with huge tangs just under the ground. Cars by the millions with gas tanks, on every street. Power lines and a million other sources of highly cumbustables would ignite. But as children we were taught, Don't question your parents, teachers, or adults. We changed all that in the sixties. We spoke out. In fact, we had a slogan that went. DUCK AND COVER, AND THEN BEND OVER AND KISS YOUR ASS GOOD BYE.

This is not a film for academy awards. However, its historical value is immense. California Standards for High School US History require us to teach about the culture of America in the 1950s, the Red Scare, McCarthyism, and the "duck and cover" campaign by the DOD. This short film is an excellent way to show students what children and the nation were being taught in an atmosphere of fear.
