During the thirties, the German people had only two choices as far as political parties were concerned, both evil.there was fascism or communism. Each party's desire was to rule and each party was determined to take control by force if necessary. We know now fascism won and Hitler was determined to end communism in Germany. But what if the communist had won? Well the Soviet Union would have gained control of Germany and if one believes that a slaughter wouldn't have happened under there rule, then one only has only to look to East Berlin after World War ll. Hitler believed that the Jewish population favored a communist form of government and Hitler was determined to stop it at any and all cost and did. Germany and it's politics were very complicated back then and in all honesty the German people had little choice.

This WWII drama is a personal story into the lives of jewish refugees hiding in an attic from the Nazi's. Perkins fails to bring the real Anne Frank to life, however Schidlkraut, Winters, Jacobi & Wynn each give fine performances. Stevens convey's the character's fear of the Green Police through excellent film- making, creating a claustrophobia effect on film with sets & cinematography. Apart from Perkins performance, I found the film too long, but the story is powrful enough to keep interest. I give it a 3.5/5.

Splendidly acted, especially by Shelley Winters in an Oscar winning performance. It's a wonderful character study, and the development of the characters is magnificent, thanks to the expert direction from George Stevens. Very well written. It's very poignant.

This is a great movie. I remember the first time I saw it I cried my eyes out. Later as I learn about how Jewish people were treated in the war it may me think, How could anyone be so cruel????
