Darling on Criterion Collection DVD
- Jeffrey Kenison
I would very much like to see this melodrama on Criterion Collection DVD. I like Julie Christie, Laurence Harvey and Dirk Bogarde. It even won three Academy Awards including Best Actress (Julie Christie), Best Original Screenplay and Best Costume Design.

I love this movie for the stylishness, the place and time, and I love all three of the leads. It's just that it was hard to watch a film that revolves (for the most part) around a couple of real sh*ts. Really difficult. Kind of like Bonnie and Clyde...sure it was well-written and well-done, but do I want to spend an hour and a half of my life with them? No.

A finely crafted snapshot of 'Swingin' 60's' London. Christie gives the one of her best performances of a shallow model, juggling Bogarde & Harvey brilliantly. The look, especially the costumes make the story come alive, even in a few dull scenes. An original film to come from the British New Wave. I give it a 4/5.
John Schessinger's "Darling" is one my ten most favorite films of all time. It precisely captures the essence of swinging London of the 60s, and the ruthless personality of the shallow, basically untalented, Diana, beautifully played by Julie Christie. Add Lawrence Harvey and Dirk Bogard and it's a wonderfully watchable drama for one and all.

Julie Christie gives a knock out performance as the title character, and she makes the film work. Great casting. Good direction and a fine screenplay.
