In this excellent film, Spencer Tracy ruthlessly pursues power and money. He eventually owns an extravagant carnival and a luxury Art Deco ship. The Dante's Inferno carnival exhibit is a spectacular cavern with devils, fire and notorious beautiful women, including Salome and Cleopatra. The surrealistic dream sequence of Hell is visually powerful and macabre, and is inspired by the engravings of Gustave Dore. This rare film deserves to be preserved on DVD.

  a Great Classic. Spencer Tracey was on top of His game. the movie protrayed so much for the year it was made. would really like to see it again!!

  Not only is this a great Spencer Tracy movie, but the dram sequences of the Inferno are from a lost silent version that was re-purposed for this 1935 feature. The art direction recreates the famous Gustav Dore illustrations of the Inferno to perfection. A simple morality tale with an artistic bent. Worth seeing and definitely worth saving.

  This movie, should be released for sale ASAP. It also should be played more. One, it is a classic. Two, it was one of Spencer Tracy's early films, and the last he made for Fox. You can buy posters of this, as many as you want, but no movie. This makes no sense. It is fantastic in black and white, and the springboard for movie knock-offs and games by the dozen. It has moral value beyond belief, of which there is very little in the new films of today. Everything about the movie in it's original form is absolutely excellent, and it's a scandal not to offer this more to the public vor viewing and purchase. If not, this movie could get lost forever to true movie lovers, and those to come in the future. PLEASE release this ASAP!

  This film should be shown regularly on TCM as an example of Spencer Tracy's early work, for the inferno scenes (see Woody Allen's inferno scenes in "Descontructing Harry"), and as proof that Rita (Cansino) Hayworth was a goddess at 16. It's a must for DVD. I hadn't seen the film since the 1980's, about the time when Ms. Hayworth succumbed to effects of Alzheimer's. I feared it might be lost forever. Release it. Release it.

  TCM we look to you for this film. Your selections of late are getting to contemporary. Items like this film should be shown. Look what AMC has become........

  What a good movie, and the Dante Inferno scene is elaborate for that time era. Rita Cansino aka Rita Hayworth is in this film as a dancer in probably one of her first roles. I had not heard of this movie prior to seeing the lsiting for it on tv and decided to check it out, and I thought it was great. It also shows you how the line "every dog has its day" sometimes come to be. Worth seeing.

  Moral implications run rampant! And the tie in to the Morro Castle fire are too cool! Hell is indeed where you find it. A must see for Tracy fans--and in glorious black and white!
