They Drive by Night
- Dashiell B.
- 3/20/13
An entertaining melodrama from director Walsh. Bogart & Raft give solid work as truck-driving brothers who becomes involved in a murder plot conceived by Lupino, who overshadows Sheridan's performance. The narrative changes from the brothers dealing with life on the road to focus solely on Raft's business venture with Lupino, it's a shame both don't get equal attention. Regardless, Walsh still made a fine film. I give it a 4/5.

Bogart and Raft upstaged by Lupino!

This must be the only film starring Bogart and Raft where they both play solid good guys with Bogart as a family man and Raft getting the girl! It's a great film noir and Ida Lupino just steals every scene she is in. She was so good at being bad and she's sensational at it here! The storyline moves along at a fast clip and your interest is held throughout. I like this film and I always have.

Many old movies seem dated and boring but not this movie. I loved it from the very beginning. Ida Lapino was fantastic in this movie. I had never heard of her before watching this great movie.

I just finished watching this movie for the first time. I loved it. I was kept glued to my sofa. It gets real interesting once Ida Lupino enters. She was superb at the end.

A good story (albeit "Bordertown" redux); an excellent script; terrific acting (especially, Lupino); no nonsense, fast paced direction. A true Gem.

This is a CLASSIC early noir film with Bogart & Raft at their best - but IDA LUPINO steals the show! She is so very good here she blows the boys out of the water. An actress who never got the credit she deserved. A film well worth watching!
