  • Great but Lumbering Drama

Billy Mitchell's prophetic pronouncements regarding the future of airpower and the Japanese Imperial threat, are somewhat muddled due to the WB's ponderous "Important Message" Film presentation. A good editor could have paced this piece (especially in the courtroom duel between Cooper and Steiger) to a much more exciting degree and kept us entralled. The facts of Mitchell's case are fascinating, but not well-served here.

  • A visionary/innovator

General Mitchell deserved better treatment, but the orders were broken; he gambled when he broke the order and lost. He knew the score, and saw a glimpse of where our future would be 20 to 50 years ahead. Truly a pioneer of sorts. I am glad in Milwaukee WI that they named an airport in his honor with the rank he had prior to the Court-Marshal. As a former navy enlisted member for 20 years, I have a friend who is also a whistle blower and the VA is screwing hard with his pension/retirement. I feel for Corey's dad for suffering punitive action for doing the right thing. I always hated the Military UCMJ for convicting you first, then you have to defend yourself. Talk about a crap sandwich. It's a risk to serve your country in any era, no matter what position you hold.

  • The same thing happened to my father

My father, Maj. Carl Mollnow USAF, had the exact same thing happen to him as Billy Mitchel. My Father was a Select Nuclear Bomber pilot in the Strategic Air Command for over 6 years and in the Air Force for over 23 years, flying the B-47 Jet Bomber. Because he blew the whistle on several saftey issues, some dealing with the transport and guarding of nuclear weapons he was called crazy, tortured in a mental hospital, given an honorable dischage, but has never recieved one cent of his retirement in over 30 years. He took his case to the supreme court and the ruled that no military personel could sue the military, citing the Feris doctrine. So much for liberty and justice for all.

  • Great movie

Very good character study of Billy Mitchell later life in the service and how he single-handedly stood up to the establishment (US government).
