Sir Ernest Pease, a famous aeronautical scientist, is a guest on the British version of the television program This Is Your Life and recalls an incident in 1942: Flying over Germany to observe first hand the results of one of his radar experiments, his plane is hit by antiaircraft fire, forcing Pease to parachute to earth. Captured, he is sent to a POW camp, where his fellow prisoners suspect him of being a German spy because of his aloof, taciturn nature and his ability to speak German. After word arrives from the War Office that he is a VIP, all hands join in effecting his escape. Following several unsuccessful attempts, Pease decides to take command of the situation. He hides while his mates pretend there has been an escape. Once certain that German commandant Major Stampfel believes him to be among the missing, Pease and two other prisoners pose as members of the Swiss Red Cross Commission and quietly walk out of the camp . Pease and his friends are reunited on the television program.
