Our differences make us alike

Wonderful film that I had completely forgotten about since viewing it in 1981 on the big screen. Very good acting with great attention to detail visually and spiritually. Not one shred of special effects. Love that. Love anything with Maximilian Schell. What an actor. Steiger, what range. To myself who grew up in small town Nebraska this film is such a window on the world. The more we are different the more we are alike.

Wonderful gem! This film lets us in on a different world (if you are not familiar with Judaic tradition - as I was not) - if it is, indeed, an acurate account. Again, I am not familiar with the Judaic tradition. A coming of age, if you will, of two different, yet oddly similar boys in 1940's Brooklyn, NY. Strong perfomances from Benson and Miller and everyone else for that matter.
