Underrated Donna Reed Performance
- Steve Nosko

This is a fascinating film noir. Unusually for any film the leading lady dies of TB. And being more than a film noir it is also a study of what poverty does to good people, in this case, Donna Reed. Alan Ladd, who was a huge star when I was a kid, now seems to be almost forgotten.

Great American Film Noir

Chicago Deadline is a nifty film noir thriller, romantic, absorbing, suspenseful, with a great cast headed by Alan Ladd and Donna Reed. Ladd plays a reporter investigating the death of a beautiful girl named Rosita (Reed) and throughout the film he follows leads to her life and tragic death by the use of her address book. He discovers her involvement with some pretty shady characters, which eventually puts himself in danger, while also discovering that he's falling in love with a dead girl! I loved this movie and I hope TCM adds it to it's lineup soon.
