    fine acting the only hollywood portrayal of richelieu grounded in reality i.e. it does not portray him as a total machiavel but as a political leader concerned for his nation

    I found the movie exciting, and the acting excellent. Though Cardinal Richelieu was not a sympathetic man, George Arliss made him a complex man, one with power on his mind, but with some virtues. The supporting actors where fine too, along with the other leads, Maureen O' Sullivan and Edward Arnold as Louis XIII. The musical score was good, though it was a little too contemporary for that period. George Arliss is a great actor, all the movies I have seen shows me he was quite a versatile actor. I would highly recommend this movie.
